New Transfer Navigator software saves time for college advisors, students
August 2, 2007 – Ottawa, ON
Decision Academic, based in Ottawa, Canada, released its long-awaited Transfer Navigator 6 software today.
Transfer Navigator 6 is a web-based application which enables colleges and universities to capture and maintain transfer equivalence data and simplify the transfer credit search and application process for students and advisors.
Transfer Navigator 6 can be used by students to request credit for courses taken at other institutions. Another feature of note to students is the option to scan the transfer rules of their home institution to see what credits they would receive if they took a course at another institution.
Advisors can use the software to evaluate course transfer requests and make decisions in light of each student’s degree audit requirements. Because Transfer Navigator integrates with Student Information Systems (SIS), student records are continually updated.
Decision Academic’s Transfer Navigator 6 release has produced significant transfer articulation enhancements:
- Students can search the entire database of transfer equivalences or search by keyword to quickly find the course they’re looking for.
- Students can run an equivalence report for courses already taken, showing those for which they would automatically receive credit and those requiring an advisor’s approval. The advisor only needs to review courses without an articulation rule.
- New equivalencies can be added with the help of version 6’s articulation rule wizard. As well, the rules engine handles transfer rules based on user-defined data such as course version (term), minimum grade and degree context. Articulations can convert semester-long and year-long courses, as well as handle articulations relating many-to-one or many-to-many courses.
- The system’s workflow can be configured for each school’s unique evaluation process.
- The user interface can be configured (text, styles, logos etc) to match a school’s look and feel. Administrators can also manage role permissions, giving them greater control over what users can see or modify.
“This release marks a tremendous step forward for Transfer Navigator’s capabilities. We expect that schools using Transfer Navigator will experience a dramatic reduction in the time it takes to grant a transfer request,” said Barry Sexton, CEO of Decision Academic.
Decision Academic is already seeing some success with the application, Sexton added, as one institution is running a production site of Transfer Navigator and other clients are currently evaluating the new software version.
