Decision Academic releases Transfer Navigator 6.0 for Recruiting - Student-facing capability to support transfer credit assessment and mapping to degree requirements
January 18, 2008
Decision Academic today announced enhancements to Transfer Navigator 6.0, a web-based application which enables colleges and universities to capture and maintain transfer equivalence data and simplify the transfer credit application process for students and the advising staff who are responsible for guiding their choices.
Transfer Navigator allows a prospective student to visit an institution's website, submit their transcript history and see how those course credits apply to the institution's existing articulation rules. Because students want to understand these equivalencies in the context of a given degree/program, the system also gives the student the ability to analyze how those transfer credits can be applied to specific degrees/programs. Running these what-if scenarios helps a student choose a degree that makes the best possible use of their transfer credits.
The student completes the process by submitting their courses for an official transfer assessment. Staff can process these assessments without rekeying information, saving time, ensuring content consistency and eliminating errors.
This new functionality integrates degree requirements into the transfer application process, while adhering to any institutional policies governing transfer such as a limit on the number of transfer credits that a four-year institution will accept towards a degree. Institutions have the option of tying to their existing Student Information System (SIS) for accessing degree requirements or by purchasing the company's Degree Navigator product. Transfer Navigator's capabilities can also be extended to a state system and virtual campus environment, enabling students to complete their degrees without leaving their state.
"'About 60 percent of students graduating from college attend more than one institution'," stated President Barry Sexton, referring to a recent New York Times report. Sexton went on to say, "Transfer Navigator helps colleges & universities recruit and retain today's highly mobile students by giving them fast access to information that helps them make decisions."
